Uncle Chad and Church.

Greetings! It has officially been one week since I moved in....feels like I've been here for months!  What have I been up to?  Not sure, to be quite honest.  The days just fly by down here.  I have had 2 days of college classes, and they were pretty harmless!  Then there was my archaeology class; the professor is in the middle of an archaeological dig in Canada (aren't teachers supposed to plan these things out?!), so she sent her husband to "sub" the class for her.  Quite frankly, he had no idea what he was doing.  Poor guy tried to go through the power point as well as he could, but I could still see the TA's chuckling behind their laptops in the front.

Last night I went to the first football game!  We dominated, as expected.  Of course my friends (yes, I have friends! Yay me!) and I were a little distracted by literally the THOUSANDS of kids running around on the grass end of the field.  They were everywhere and hyped up on sugar and popcorn...out.of.control.  Ummm I get that parents are proud of their Alma Mater, but I thought this was a college...?  My friends and I also enjoyed observing what we dubbed as the resident creeper-looking bald middle-aged man who was "playing" with all the little kids...in a slightly creepy way.  What made me chuckle was that when I asked my friends what we should call him, they replied "Uncle Chad".  Shout-out to the bro-in-law whose name apparently conjures a creeper persona to college students.

Another Shout-out to my sissy for sending the first and only letter I have received in college!  Made my day!  The rest of my family...you're slacking.  Although the line about "meeting hot guys" I read out loud to my guy friends who were around me...yeah, bad idea.  Awkward chuckles ensued.

Good news, I think I found a church that I want to be a part of!  I got a ride from an upper-classman and I really love it.  Reminds me of my church back home, but with more college students.  Also joining the Campus Crusade group on campus that is a part of the church.  And let me just say, SO nice biking at 9:00 am on a Sunday morning...NO ONE is out due to...um...festivities that occurred the prior night...so while everyone was hungover in their bunk beds, I enjoyed an empty bike-path campus!

Tomorrow begins a new week where I will experience a full and complete week of classes and other festivities.  Oh, and the heat here needs to go away.  Miserable!

Until next time...Cam

Two is Better Than One.

Yep, two posts in one day.  I swear I have friends.  I just wanted to update y'all on how my first day as an OFFICIAL college student went!  Only had one class, but it counts.

The class was "Social Problems", and while the subject matter can be summed up in the title of our book ("From Preacher's Daughter to Lesbian Mom"), I am looking forward to the rest of the class.  Doesn't seem to stressful, and LOTS of room for debating!  :D That, and you know the class is gonna be good when you're teacher talks about the psychology of Reality TV on the first day.

For those who were curious as to the state of my health after facing my fear of the bike round-abouts, I am alive.  Near collisions aside, I am alive.  Definitely does not make anything easier when upper-classroom set up lawn chairs surrounding the bike circles to watch Freshman crash into each other...no, really, they actually do this.

Tomorrow I venture into the world of Archaeology; shall be a good time.  Planning on checking out two more Christian fellowships on campus tonight and hoping they prove to be a bit more intriguing than the last.  Otherwise things are good, I am good, the cows are good.

"I'm a Ginger. Having the sun on me is never a good idea. Ever"

Just a little gem I heard while in line for my bike license.  That is all.

Oh, and Egyptian War is my NEW FAVORITE GAME. Seriously.  A group of us played for 3 hours straight last night.  One by one, people started slowly leaving to go to bed, but 4 of us kept going strong.  Gotta love college "school nights".

First class today at 3:00pm!  As nervous as I am to have a professor who's last name is "Weiner" (not kidding), I'm more afraid that I will get trampled by bikes during passing period.

So, so afraid.  More to come later!

Mid-Week Thoughts.

After only a few days here, I have observed something quite spectacular.  Apparently I missed a memo that had to be passed around on move-in day regarding the unspoken uniform, because everyone seems to be in on it except for me.

Boys- Is it REALLY necessary to give-in to what I call "The Tool" look?!  Come on, we aren't in high school anymore; its time to ditch the Nikes with the calf-high socks, paired with basketball shorts and bro tanks.  We all know that you're trying to convey your "gym rat" persona with your little draw string gym bags strewn over your shoulder, but you are not fooling anyone.  I dare one man on campus to wear a pair of jeans.  I DARE you!

Girls- Britney Spears hasn't been popular since we were in 3rd grade.  Therefore, I urge you to forgo the belly button Forever 21 crop-tops and booty shorts.  There is a time and place for--wait a minute, there is NEVER a time or place for short shorts underwear in public. Please and thank you.

In other news...I checked out my first Christian youth group last night!  Wasn't a fan.  It was weird.  Better luck tonight.

I'm also having withdrawals from my reality TV addiction already.  Most shows are posted a few days after, but not my beloved "Breaking Amish" or "Honey Boo Boo"...I miss me some quadruple-chinned rednecks.  Almost more than my own family.  (I kid, mother).

Day One.

Today was the long awaited move-in day.  The three of us and our trusty U-Haul truck packed up and headed to the middle of nowhere; the place where my college experience would soon begin.  To put it simply, it was an exhausting day.  But rather than bore you with tales of desk drawer organizers and instant oatmeal, I thought I would share some of my not-so-hot moments from today.  My first Freshman Moment was after dinner.  I picked up my devoured plate of steamed vegetables (be proud, Mother), and suddenly forgot where I was supposed to clear my dishes.  I drew a complete blank.  I proceeded to aimlessly walk around the entire cicumfrence of the cafeteria (TWICE) trying to figure out where I was supposed to put my dirty dishes.  While contemplating my options, I spotted it. "DISH RETURN HERE". Apparently despite my 500 visits of the campus and its cafeterias, I failed to remember its state of the art dish retun conveyor belt contraption that exists in all of their cafs.  I seriously don't know how I missed it.  It is smack-dab in the middle.of.the.cafeteria.  I ran to the magical Dish Return Room and got out of that DC as soon as I could before people started to notice the weird girl walking laps around the caf.

But no no no, of course that wasn't my only epic-fail moment of the day.  Let's see; I walked for 7 minutes in the dark only to realize that I was going the opposite direction of my dorm room, I met about 3,000 people today only to remember 3 of their names, came verrry close to locking myself out of my room multiple times, and took 15 minutes to figure out how to open my mailbox, upon discovering that I had no mail.
But I have realized one thing: if you want to make friends, simply write "We have cookies." on your door.  The men will flock to you.

Wish me luck, I'm about to brave the dreaded dorm showers,  hop on my bike to go find my classes, and hopefully not get stuck in the middle of what I call, "Tour de France".  Until the cows come home....Cami
